The Weddell Sea is considered home to thousands of undiscovered species, and the European Union has been pushing to turn it into an ocean sanctuary.
However, consensus eludes the conservation bid as 24 countries in the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources couldn’t agree on making it a no-go zone for fishing, mining and drilling.
