More than a quarter of world’s diabetes patients live in China, making the country the diabetes capital of the world. Yet only 39 per cent of the nation’s estimated cases have been diagnosed. In 2017, the disease led to the deaths of about 843,000 people, state broadcaster CGTN reported. So why is China now facing the world’s largest diabetes epidemic, and what can be done to tackle the problem?
