(15 Mar 2018) The editor-in-chief of Russian government broadcaster RT suggested on Wednesday that “some other country” could have carried out the poisoning of a former spy in Britain to put the blame on Russia.
Simonyan suggested that for Russia “to be so reckless and stupid” a few days before elections there “would be very strange.”
Addressing possible retaliation by the British government, Simonyan added that if Russian media are censored in the U.K., “that’s going to be it for the British media” in Russia.
Sergei Skripal and his 33-year-old daughter were found poisoned on March 4 in a shopping area of the British city of Salisbury.
Russia vehemently denies involvement and has pointed to a number of possible anomalies.
