Trade unions in Jordan have led a nationwide strike on Wednesday against a controversial plan to raise income tax.
The proposed reforms, driven by International Monetary Fund recommendation, have sparked the country’s largest protests in years.
King Abdullah has ordered a review and has even replaced his prime minister to try to defuse public anger.
