Leaders from 70 countries are in the French capital to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
French President Emmanuel Macron has sought to defuse a dispute with his US counterpart, hailing the “great solidarity” between the two countries after his US counterpart Donald Trump blasted his proposals for a European army.
For American and French leaders, it was also a chance to bridge the transatlantic divide.
