Residents in Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s North Island were seen using a refrigerator and mattresses to move around their neighbourhood that was flooded as Cyclone Gabrielle pounded New Zealand with heavy rain and winds. The region on the east coast of the island is one of the worst-affected areas. Recovery efforts started as the storm weakened and moved away from New Zealand on February 15, 2023.
