Researchers at the University of Hong Kong have successfully prolonged the life of a late-stage liver cancer patient by using a new treatment strategy that reduced the tumour to a size that allowed the man to receive a transplant. The procedure known as a “reduce and remove” strategy was described as the first in the world to shrink a stage-four liver cancer to what was considered stage one. Post reporter Connor Mycroft explores what the outcome means with the co-leader of the research team, Professor Albert Chan Chi-yan.
