Six people have been arrested in Hong Kong for allegedly publishing seditious materials linked to the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown with the aim of inciting hatred of the local and central governments. The arrests, announced by Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung on May 28, 2024, were the first made under the city’s new domestic national security legislation. Among those detained was activist Chow Hang-tung, who is already jailed for another offence.
