South Koreans are celebrating after Han Kang became the first person from the country to win a Nobel Prize in literature on October 10, 2024. At a major bookstore in central Seoul, residents were seen taking pictures of Han’s book collections and celebrating posters. The 53-year-old author is also the first Asian female to win the prize and the second South Korean to win a Nobel Prize. The country’s last Nobel laureate was former president Kim Dae-jung, who won the peace prize in 2000.
