German artist Boris Eldagsen refused to accept the creative open prize at this year’s Sony World Photography Awards after his “Pseudomnesia: The Electrician” won on April 14, 2023. The photographer said the image was generated by artificial intelligence (AI), testing if competitions “are prepared” for AI images to enter. He says the answer is no and suggests opening a separate category for AI-generated art.
