This month Bangladesh has ratified the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Sustainable Recycling of Ships. Ship recycling is big business in Bangladesh, but rights organisations have long voiced concerns about dangerous conditions for workers, as well as environmental damage. Lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan says aside from its effects on the environment, the industry is one of the most dangerous in the world for workers. Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from Sitakunda near the Bay of Bengal.
