Balance for better! Yes, that’s the theme for this year’s international women’s day. Indeed it the best theme in a country like India, which strives to succeed to achieve a balanced society, raise awareness against social stigma, gender bias and needs strong and fast policy prescriptions for equality. As we celebrate women’s achievement some stark realities loom over us. Dowry, Human Trafficking, Female infanticide, no pay parity in the workspace, married women forced to leave their jobs and young girls are body shamed in their schools and colleges. On women’s day, we must take pride in our achievements, fight on for justice and ask- have our politicians let us down? Did our colleagues not back us? Are we in a better place than what we were a few years back? Supriya Shrinate discusses the future of half a billion of this country on this India Development Debate.
