Built in 1994, the Sao Luiz is one of dozens of ships rusting away in Brazil’s iconic Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro. Once home to vast mangroves and thriving marine life, the bay is now polluted by the “graveyard of ships”. Along with dwindling local biodiversity, the environmental crisis threatens the economy which heavily depends on tourists drawn to the area’s beaches and natural beauty.
