“Chairman Dan” has gone out a winner as he leaves the top job at a time of his own choosing, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Outgoing Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced his resignation on Tuesday, which will take effect on Wednesday afternoon.
The Victorian Labor caucus will meet to decide who will take over as leader and become the new premier.
Victorian Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan is said to be the likely favourite to win the leadership contest.
“He knew what he wanted, even when he was wrong, and he was a commanding presence in the media, often talking over them to the public, as the best politicians do,” Mr Kenny said.
“Andrews is a bloke with the wrong ideas and the wrong instincts, but the advocacy and political skills to deliver on them.”
