Curtin University political analyst Professor Joe Siracusa reinforced the risk China poses to the US, reminding us The United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence identified China as “the number one threat to the country.”
“It’s very, very important that the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China don’t make any mistakes in the years ahead because the Intelligence Committee has identified China as the number one threat to the United States,” he told Sky News Australia.
“We’ve got war parties in Congress that are gearing up for the war with China which I don’t think is ever going to happen, and we keep jumping up and down about Taiwan…There are important things to safeguard.”
Mr Siracusa’s comments are particularly poignant as US President Joe Biden gears up to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next week.
The meeting will mark the first in a year for the two world leaders.
