중국, 홍콩보안법 후속 절차 속도 낸다…”이르면 8월 시행”
China’s controversial new national security bill for Hong Kong could take effect as soon as August.
That’s according to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post today, a day after the bill was approved by China’s legislature.
The report says the bill could be fast-tracked outside the usual six-month process.
The bill would outlaw conduct that China says constitutes treason, secession, sedition and subversion, prompting concerns that Hong Kong’s autonomy will disappear.
China has faced an international backlash over the bill, including from the U.S.
President Trump is set to hold a briefing today during which he’s expected to comment on whether the U.S. will maintain Hong Kong’s special trading status.
