Soldiers from mainland China were sent on to the streets of Hong Kong for the first time since anti-government protests began about six months ago.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers helped Beijing supporters dismantle a fence and clear roadblocks near Kowloon Tong garrison.
The soldiers rarely leave their barracks – they were last seen a year ago cleaning up after Typhoon Mangkhut.
Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride reports from Hong Kong.
