Sky News US Analyst Michael Ware has raised concerns former US President Donald Trump being blocked on the ballot will “energise pro-Trump supporters” and “anti-Trump activists”.
Mr Ware’s comments come after the US state of Maine removed Mr Trump from their primary ballot in the 2024 election.
The Sky News US Analyst says Maine doesn’t have “that many electoral votes” and he doesn’t see it being one of the five or six states that will “actually turn this election”.
“It’s the danger of the symbolism and how that may ripple out,” Mr Ware told Sky News Australia.
“And how that may energise pro-Trump supporters and anti-Trump activists … there are broader ramifications.
“You can easily peg this as a partisan decision by a Democratic secretary of state but what it does for the second time in about a week or less, it has brought to the fore that there are serious legal issues hanging over and threatening to drown former President Trump’s nomination.”
