The US state of Maine has removed former US president Donald Trump from its primary ballot in the 2024 election.

This is the second state to bar Donald Trump over his role in the January 6 riots.

The decision was taken by Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who issued this decision after presiding over an administrative hearing earlier this month about Mr Trump’s eligibility for office.

The ruling applies only to the March primary election.

It likely will add to pressure on the US Supreme Court to resolve questions about the former president’s eligibility nationwide under the constitutional provision known as Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
