The smallest island nations are some of the most beautiful places on earth, but they’re facing huge problems. As global temperatures go up, ice caps are melting and causing the world’s sea levels to rise. By 2100, levels are predicted to rise by over a metre, which means that small island nations like Fiji and Tonga in the Pacific Ocean, could become uninhabitable. One island is taking a stand to protect themselves: the children of Palau, a Republic of tiny islands in Micronesia, have written a pledge to protect their environment.

BBC My World is a brand new show for young people around the world, brought to you by executive producers Angelina Jolie and the BBC World Service. We’ve also partnered with Microsoft Education and BBC Learning to show you how the news is made, fact-check stories and spot fake news.
