Indian journalist Siddique Kappan was released on bail February 2, 2023, after being held for more than two years without trial. Kappan was initially arrested in October 2020 in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on charges of conspiracy to commit violence after he travelled there to cover a high-profile gang rape case.
