Popularised by players as “Pokémon with guns”, the unexpected smash hit video game, Palworld, racked up over 8 million downloads within six days of its release on January 19, reaching almost 25 million downloads within a month. Produced by Japanese game developer Pocket Pair, Palworld’s clever mash-up of monster-catching, the adorable animated designs of the “pals”, and other features unique to the game have gone down well with players. But eerie similarities to the 1996 classic could potentially lead to legal action from The Pokémon Company.
