Indonesian President Joko Widodo met with Japanese Emperor Naruhito on June 19, 2023. In a joint press statement, Widodo and Naruhito expressed hopes for further development of ties between the two countries. Naruhito kicked off his one-week trip when he arrived in the Indonesian capital on June 17, at the invitation of Jakarta. He is expected to visit a military cemetery, a new mass rapid transit train depot, and a Buddhist temple during his visit.
