Treasurer Jim Chalmers has delivered a stern warning to insurance companies after hearing reports of a farmer being told there would be no payout from disastrous floods as the devastating weather was not labelled a cyclone.
“Our message from all three levels of government to the insurers is very clear – do the right thing by your customers,” Mr Chalmers said during a media conference on Tuesday.
“People have been through hell in some of these communities.
“Hosing out homes, throwing away a lifetime of belongings, being in physical danger – the last thing that people need is insurance companies stuffing them around.
“So that is very clearly the message from all of us; do the right thing by all your customers.”
