Katherine Johnson, a pioneering Nasa mathematician celebrated in the film Hidden Figures, passed away at the age of 101 on February 24.Johnson’s mathematical talent took her from a behind-the-scenes job in a racially segregated computing unit at Nasa to a key role in sending astronauts to the moon in the 1960s. Johnson and her black women colleagues were little known to the public for decades but gained overdue recognition in the 2016 Oscar-nominated film. Johnson was portrayed by Taraji P. Henson.
