Shadow Veterans’ Affairs Minister Barnaby Joyce says the Labor government was like a “bunny in the headlights” when the Coalition addressed the government’s permittance of public servants working on Anzac Day.
Mr Joyce’s comments come amid Labor’s move to give workers the choice to work on Australia Day and have a day in lieu – which includes public holidays like Anzac Day.
“I don’t doubt for one second any person in this Parliament’s belief in Anzac Day but what I do doubt is their competency,” he told Sky News Australia.
“We all know that people work – doctors, dairy farmers, people who work on the Anzac Day services but it’s not about them that we’re talking about.
“It’s the people who say, ‘I’m going to make a political statement’ and work on Anzac Day.”
