The governor of the Greek island of Lesbos has told the BBC he apologises for the violent actions of some residents against migrants and aid workers.
Costas Moutzouris also said that he condemns the actions of the Greek Coast Guard, who were earlier filmed shooting towards migrant boats and hitting them with sticks.
Aid agencies have complained of assault and intimidation by a small group of islanders, and have curtailed their operations. Hundreds of migrants have arrived on Lesbos since Friday when Turkey opened its borders. From Lesbos, Jean Mackenzie reports
