In 2014, Shay al-Shomous opened its doors in Doha’s Souq Waqif.
The owner, Shams al-Qassabi, had defied the prevailing norms of the time to first set up a spice shop in the market, then to open this restaurant.
The eatery has flourished and counts footballer David Beckham among its customers. Now it is offering World Cup visitors a taste of Qatar’s culinary traditions.
