Scientists have detected atomic oxygen in the atmosphere of Venus for the first time.
ANU Astrophysicist and Cosmologist Brad Tucker discussed the latest finding on Venus.
“Discovering oxygen, and when we say oxygen we’re talking about just atomic oxygen, oxygen by itself, not O2 – the stuff that we breathe,” Mr Tucker told Sky News Australia.
“This is quite important because we haven’t discovered it in the daytime side of Venus before,” he said.
Mr Tucker said the discovery will help scientists answer questions about why Venus’ atmosphere is so different to Earth’s.
