Shanghai Disneyland reopened to visitors on May 11, 2020, after a four-month shutdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The park is restricted to one-third of its normal daily capacity of 80,000 visitors and guests are constantly reminded to wear face masks and adhere to social-distancing guidelines. The reopening of the US$5.5 billion facility, the biggest of Disney’s three resorts in Asia which hosted about 11.8 million visitors in 2018, is good news for the California-based company. The coronavirus pandemic had taken US$1.4 billion of Disney’s expected income, year on year, as its cinemas and theme parks around the world closed during the three months ending March 31.
