Al Jazeera English | Myanmar protests continue after violent crackdown
Protesters in Myanmar returned to the streets for a fifth consecutive day after rallies were dramatically and violently broken up by security forces.
They called for the return to democracy in the country, their elected leaders to be freed and the military government to step down after the February 1, 2021 military coup.
The army cited election fraud as the reason for the takeover. The country escalated into a full-scale civil war a few months later.
