Brain injury experts are calling for the ban of all contact sports for Australian children aged under 14.
“Much better to keep them indoors, scrolling through TikTok videos than create a generation of brain-damaged kids that way,” said Sky News host James Macpherson.
The call to ban contact sports comes in the wake of a Senate inquiry into concussions in professional football.
The inquiry heard evidence that repeated head knocks, big and small, can lead to a degenerative condition in the brain known as CTE.
“But the suggestion kids shouldn’t play contact sports because some professional players have suffered injuries takes the nanny state to a whole new level.”
