While trainee doctors in Seoul are on strike against the government’s plan to increase medical school admissions instead of first improving working conditions, hospitals in smaller South Korean cities are experiencing a shortage of doctors. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has refused to back down even as the strikes, which began on February 20, 2024, stretch past their second month. Cho Seung-yeon, president of Incheon Medical Centre, expressed his concern over not having enough physicians to take care of patients.
