Unemployment figures have risen from 3.9 to 4.1 per cent, marking the highest figure in two years.
Liberal MP Keith Wolahan says “no one” welcomes a higher figure for unemployment.
“I’m on the house economic committee and we’ve heard the RBA – the previous governor and the current governor link higher unemployment with rising interest rates and it’s linked with inflation,” he told Sky News Australia.
“What disturbed me was the Treasurer reaching for the average number – previously the Treasurer has grasped and claimed credit for the lower number, but he doesn’t want to talk about the actual number anymore.
“I think Australians want us to focus on the here and now.”
