On the Urban Debate with Faye D’Souza, a differently-abled man named Armaan Ali faced discrimination in an Uber. He said that the first ride he booked, was cancelled by the cab driver after 30 minutes. When the second cab driver arrived, he put his luggage in the boot of the car but when Armaan asked him to put his wheelchair inside, the driver refused and said that it would damage the vehicle’s seat.
When will India recognise that differently-abled people have equal rights?
Are we really welcoming of those who are differently-abled? Do we have laws that enforce a society that doesn’t discriminate? And if someone does discriminate, what laws are brought into play?
Shouldn’t taxi services have a policy for differently- abled customers?
