This week Meraj and Johan head to the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Near Dharamsala town, they set up base in a classic backpackers’ homestay and make sorties into the city that houses the country’s largest Tibetan settlement and that is home to the Dalai Lama. At this sanctuary, they meet ex-dairy farm cows, ex-sacrificial lambs, and ex-beasts-of burden, all quite enjoying their second lease of life. With the mercury still soaring in the plains, they’ve come up with a long list of entirely flimsy excuses to extend the trip
