In a surprise announcement, the US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has resigned and will leave her job at the end of the year.
She says she wants a break from public life, and has ruled out running against Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
In a hastily arranged news conference, Haley said she fully supports Trump but wants to take a break from public office.
Trump has suggested former adviser Dina Powell as a possible replacement, and appeared to rule out his daughter, Ivanka, for the role.
